Music Lessons
In 2014 we started a new project in partnership with an organisation called Treble Effect. This organisation’s mission is to teach the children of Port Elizabeth a skill – to play a musical instrument. Founded by Louis Janse van Rensburg, Treble Effect not only donated two guitars to Project Hope, but Louis also teaches our children to play the guitar. After our first meeting with him we knew Louis’ vision resonated with ours: to train, influence and change. In November 2014 we launched this new skills programme at The Helenvale Resource Centre, starting with twenty-two boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 13.
“The children of Project Hope show real excitement and are eager learners. I can already identify four children that show real talent and natural ability.” – Louis Janse van Rensburg, Founder of Treble Effect
“Gangsterism and violence are part of these children’s daily reality. On more than one occasion we have heard shots being fired outside, while we were busy with the children inside.” – Madge Blignaut, Project Manager of Project Hope
Our Hope for the future:
Project Hope aims to expand this programme in 2015. We hope to include a variety of instruments, have more music teachers volunteer and be able to present this programme in additional locations.
What we need:
- Music teachers
- Instruments, such as guitars, keyboards and drum sets
